Hierarchical Departments

ESChat now offers the ability to create nested departments, allowing easier management of users and an added layer of separation between users who should not be able to communicate between physical locations or internal departments.  Feature Key and Client Settings templates may be created on either the entire Client or a Department level.  New users can be created with Maximal Contacts giving the user only the contacts from their hosting Department.  To allow users from nested departments to communicate with each other, please contact ESChat Support for the department association.

 

Step 1: Under the ESChat Subscriber Functions, navigate to Departments.  Then select the Add button.

 

Step 2: Name the Department, and decide whether this should be nested within another master department.  If not, leave the Parent Department as None.

 

Step 3: You will now be in the Department itself.  To create a nested department, return to the Departments tab, and repeat steps 1 and 2.  Select the Parent Department from the drop down menu of existing departments.

 

Hierarchical departments are indicated in the Portal with by a collapsible button:

 

Please note that each department must be unique within your customer.  In this example, the second Site 1 department must be named Site.1 instead.
