Making a 1:1 or Ad Hoc Group Call

Step 1: Navigate to the Contacts tab, and select the user(s) to receive the PTT call.  1:1 calls will display a “Private” title in the ESChat Banner, and Ad Hoc group calls will display “Adhoc.”

Note: You may clear the selection by pressing the in the ESChat Banner.

Step 2: Long Press on the Push to Talk button.  Wait approximately 1-3 seconds to allow for the receivers to be pulled into the call, and begin speaking.

*Note: This wait time is only necessary on the initial floor grant connection, there is no need to wait on further transmissions.

*Note: When using a device with a dedicated PTT button (Sonim XP series, DuraForce XV) your device may be configured without an onscreen PTT button.  In this case, simply select the desired Contacts, Press and Release the external PTT button to initiate the call, and then Press and Hold the button while speaking.

Step 3: When finished speaking, release the Push to Talk button, and the call state will change to Idle.  At this point, the floor is open for the receiver(s) to respond.

Step 4: To finish the call for all members of the call at the same time, allow the Idle Floor Time setting to automatically end this call after 30 seconds of no traffic on this call.  You may also end your presence in the call at any time by opening the Call Sub Menu, and selecting End Call.

*Note: When End Call is selected, this will end the call for both users on a 1:1 PTT call, but only ends the call for the manually closed user while the other members of an Ad Hoc Group will remain in the group call until the Idle Timeout is reached.

*Note: Pressing the device “Back” button will also bring up the sub menu.

Making a Group Call

Step 1: Open the Groups tab, and select the correct group to receive the PTT call.  Group calls will display a “Group_Name” title in the ESChat Banner, “Example” in this case.

Step 2: Long Press on the Push to Talk button.  Wait approximately 1-3 seconds to allow for the receivers to be pulled into the call, and begin speaking.  Unavailable users will be dropped from the call, but will be able to late join a call in progress.

*Note: This wait time is only necessary on the initial floor grant connection, there is no need to wait on further transmissions.
